The Internet Is A Real Place And I Hate Everyone There (2024)

The Internet Is A Real Place And I Hate Everyone There is a project exploring themes of self-construction, perception and voyeurism, particularly online. Through a series of self-portraits, Harper delves into the duality of social media, both as a tool to control how we are perceived by others, while simultaneously being able to fulfil our own voyeuristic urges and observe other users. Harper created several fictional characters, based on real people she watches online, and created social media accounts for them all. With a heavy interest in how external facade leads to certain impressions, She aims to exaggerate these characters over time and turn them into complete caricatures of themselves.
Completed in her third year studying photography at university, this project led to the development of her current and ongoing project: London Caricatures.
