London Caricatures (2025)
Through this ongoing series of self-portraits, Harper explores the individual and collective identities she encounters while navigating life in London, examining how cultural codes of identity, power, and class are interpreted and reproduced through street encounters and voyeuristic engagement on social media. By performing as various caricatures, she investigates how appearances are constructed and decoded through the recreation of observed behaviours, drawing on staged documentary practices. Harper also reflects on her own position in the city, responding to assumptions she holds about others to better understand her own privilege. The project prompts reflection on how much control we have over how we’re perceived, with its satirical tone exposing Harper’s specific lens through which she sees the city.
